Why is it that the ruling party defends and supports the EC – Prof. Gyampo asks

Image
Professor Ransford Gyampo who is a political science lecturer at the University of Ghana has wondered why every ruling party in government seems to defend and support every policy by the Electoral Commission more than the electoral body itself. He remarked “The problem I have with the electoral commission is that it has not been able to ring-fence itself to win itself from the praise singing and support from ruling parties. Why is it that every time the ruling party talks more or seem to understand the electoral process more than the electoral commission itself.” Speaking on Cape Coast-based Kastle FM with Oman Nana monitored by MyNewsGh.com , Professor Gyampo questioned why over the years the Electoral Commission seems not to call the ruling party to order whenever they seem to be doing what they’ve not been mandated to do. He added: “The activities of the electoral commission are well understood and better defended by the ruling party than the electoral commission itself. That sh

I bear no grudges against Sekyere East DCE who campaigned against me – Dr Ayew Afriyie

Image
Member of Parliament(MP) for the Effiduase-Asokore Constituency, Dr Nana Ayew Afriyie has said that he is unperturbed by the attitude of the District Chief Executive(DCE) for Sekyere East, Mary Boatemaa Marfo who was recently caught on tape inciting a “skirt and blouse” vote against him in the upcoming elections. He says though it was unfortunate for the DCE to have done that, he would hold no grudges against her but would rather focus on campaigning and selling his message to the electorate who are clothed with the power to unseat him or give him another four years mandate. In a leaked audio, the DCE was heard in a conversation with a party member threatening to frustrate voters on Election Day which will in turn reduce the votes of the NPP and the MP, Dr. Nana Ayew Afriyie; which subsequently saw the president revoking her appointment. But days after her dismissal, President Akufo-Addo rescinded his decision to sack Mary Boatemaa Marfo and immediately reinstated her. The action

Addressing the chiefs and people of Kwamekrom in the Biakoye constituency recently, Mr Mahama said president Akufo- Addo is at liberty to select the moderators and the institution that he wants to organize the debate, and he will show up to debate the president on any day, at any time and anywhere. But reacting to the call for debate the Vice President on Accra-based Asempa Fm monitored by MyNewsGh.com said it will be interesting to debate the former President ahead of the 2020 election. Lincolnshire Wildlife Park received the birds back in August and quarantined them together in the same room, according to Fox News . It sounds like the park’s staff wasn’t prepared for the parrots bringing out the worst in each other. “But, just by coincidence, we took in five in the same week and because they were all quarantined together it meant that one room was just full of swearing birds,” chief executive officer Steve Nichols told the Lincolnshire Live, noting the park employees “always find it very comical when they do swear at you. The more they swear the more you usually laugh which then triggers them to swear again.” After the brief quarantine, the birds were put out for view of guests, assuming the cussing would stop. But it didn’t take long before the birds were yakking it up saying all  kinds of cra

Whoever says he will introduce free primary health does not properly understand the health system in Ghana. Advisor on Health at the Presidency Dr. Antyhony Nsiah Asare has said. Dr. Nsiah Asare’s comments come following a campaign promise made by Former President and flagbearer of the NDC Mr. John Mahama that his next government is going to provide free primary healthcare saying “this will remove cost as a barrier to health care and ensure health for all.” According to Mr. Mahama, “despite the implementation of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), some gaps still remained in the delivery of universal healthcare in the country”, hence the new policy would come to address those gapes it is currently facing. He also noted that, “the free primary healthcare plan, which will be available to all patients in CHPS compounds, polyclinics, health centres and district hospitals, would ensure that the common illnesses afflicting Ghanaians were detected and treated early, before compli

NDC presser on EC was due to campaign failure – Atik Mohammed defends

Former General Secretary of the People’s National Convention (PNC) Atik Mohammed has argued that challenges with the voter register which came to light during the recently held voter exhibition exercise are normal challenges that the EC was already taking steps to address. He therefore stated that that they did not warrant the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) putting his campaign on hold to address. He contends that the temporary suspension of the campaign was as a result of NDC’s campaign failures, not the failures of the EC. The NDC held a press conference and called out the EC for challenges with the voter register. It vowed to not accept the results of the upcoming elections if the EC failed to address the challenges. But Atik Mohammed has asserted that the press conference was unnecessary given that the issues were not new or strange such that the NDC needed to cut short the campaign of the flagbearer to address. “Given that all provisional registers produ

To him, there are a lot of Highlife musicians in Ghana although a bunch of them are gone, but those still living testify that, the music genre still stands tall. He claimed that, just as any other Highlife musician, he has not stopped doing music and moreover, all their music produced decades ago are still relevant. Dada KD who spoke on Kumasi based radio Akoma FM in an interview monitored by MyNewsGH.com however appreciated the fact that, the music industry today has been so good and easy to make it because

Learn to respect -Haruna Iddrisu takes on EC Chairperson Jean Mensa

Image
Minority leader and Member of Parliament (MP) for Tamale South Haruna Iddrisu has called out the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission of Ghana (EC) Mrs Jean Mensa, stressing that she must respect political parties as institutions she has to work. Mr Iddrisu underscored the point that the Electoral Commission (EC) will not exist if there no political parties.  Therefore she must accord political parties the respect they deserve as key stakeholders. His comments follow anomalies that have been detected in the voter register during the recently ended voter exhibition exercise. “Electoral Commission (EC) as created by article 45 of the constitution.  Where is an Electoral Commission which has no respect for political parties? Again trite knowledge in Political Science. There is no EC when there are no viable, efficient and functional political parties. She must respect the political parties as institutions she must work with,” he noted while addressing an event covered by MyNewsGh.c
