Those who came begging “try me” should be humble and accept criticism from CSOs – Manasseh to NPP

Image
Award-winning freelance investigative journalist Manasseh Azure Awuni has taken on officials of the Akufo-Addo government for their seeming intolerance of criticism from civil society organizations (CSOs) and independent voices, reminding them that those same voices fought with them when they were in opposition and had no power. Some civil society organizations (CSOs), especially Imani Africa, have come under intense criticism for criticising Government’s handling of the Agyapa Royalties deal, with some influential members of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) questioning their competence. But Mr Azure Awuni in a Facebook post sighted by MyNewsGh.com has reminded them that they will need these CSOs again whenever they lose power, stressing that CSOs must not be discredited. “…And those who came begging, “Try me!” should have the humility to accept criticism from civil society and other independent voices. They fought with you when you were powerless in opposition. With all th

COVID-19 has come to save people from cholera deaths – Dr. Frank Serebour

Image
Vice President of the Ghana Medical Association (GMA) Dr. Frank Serebour has said the absence of cholera outbreak in the country is as a result of the presence of COVID-19 and its protocols of handwashing. “For the first time in this country did you hear of the outbreak of cholera? Nobody heard of cholera. Therefore, hand washing and avoidance of handshaking have all come with additional benefit out of that COVID-19”. Dr. Frank Serebour stated. According to him, if people continue with the practice of handwashing and avoid unnecessary handshaking, diseases like typhoid and cholera would reduce drastically from the country. Speaking on Kumasi based pure FM in an interview monitored by MyNewsGH.com , Dr. Frank Serebour revealed that the country did not suffer from cholera because of the handwashing practice which forms part of the COVID-19 protocols. Guinea’s leader Condé accepts nomination for third term

Image
The President of Guinea, Alpha Condé , has accepted his party’s nomination to seek a controversial third term. Mr Condé, who was first elected in 2010, pushed through a constitutional change in a referendum in March which allowed him to stand for a third term. The vote was boycotted by the opposition and sparked mass protests. In early August Guinea’s ruling party nominated the 82-year-old president to represent it in the elections in October, but at the time he made no formal response. His efforts to stay in power have raised concerns Guinea will go the way of some other African countries whose rulers have refused to step down after their mandates expired. BBC Let's block ads! Covid-19: Doctors in Nigeria’s capital to begin strike

Image
Resident doctors in Nigeria’s capital, Abuja, will begin an “indefinite” strike on Tuesday morning over non-payment of what they term as “Covid-19 hazard and inducement allowance” since April. The Association of Resident Doctors said the authorities had failed to fulfil pledges to pay its members who are working in coronavirus isolation and treatment centres as well as hospitals. It said the strike comes after the expiry of a 14-day ultimatum it had given the authorities. The association’s leaders, in a statement, said they also want the government to address non-payment of promotion arrears since 2016, non-remittance of deductions including pensions and non-payment of rural allowances. The authorities in the Nigerian capital have not yet commented on the strike. But the doctors have vowed they will not go back to work until their demands are met. Nigeria has so far confirmed 54,008 coronavirus cases with 41,638 recoveries and 1,013 deaths, according to the country’s Centre for D

Bringing back confused John Mahama as President is very suicidal – NPP

‘ Voting John Dramani Mahama back to power as President of Ghana is suicidal’, this is according to the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP). According to the governing political party , Ghanaians cannot bring back the days of experimentation considering the current state of the country. Addressing a press conference Monday, Communications Officer of the NPP, Yaw Boaben Asamoa insisted that Ghanaians need to maintain the competent Akufo-Addo over the incompetent and indecisive Mahama. “Through you, ladies and gentlemen of the media, we are humbly asking Ghanaians to choose decisive, focused, courageous, committed, competent and compassionate leadership over wishy-washy, flip-flopping, indecisive and incoherent leadership. Akufo-Addo represents leadership of service that will transform Ghana for all. Vote for him to protect our progress.” “The choice before the Ghanaian people is simple. We have a choice between decision and indecision. We have a choice between vision and a lack of

Mahama still struggling to find out what Ghanaians governance priorities are -NPP

The New Patriotic Party(NPP) is of the view that regardless of the time at the hands of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) while in opposition, the party cannot still get a message for the Ghanaian people. This was made known at a Press Conference addressed by the NPP’s Yaw Boabeng Asamoa Monday. He said “Months before COVID-19 hit the world, John Mahama’s NDC set up a manifesto committee on a perilous journey to go and find out what Ghanaians want. After 16 years of NDC in the 28-year-old fourth Republic which he [Mahama] has ruled in 6 years of those years and the final decision maker in Ghana, he is still struggling to find out what Ghanaians governance priorities are. “On July 1st 2020, the whole world was told that candidate Mahama has received the people’s manifesto and he said he was going to launch in August but when the NPP announced August 22 to launch its manifesto, the whole world was told theirs will follow on the August 29 and then came the bomb. Airport Re-opening: $150 cheaper than being infected with COVID-19 – Okoe Boye defends testing fee

Deputy Health Minister Bernard Okoe Boye has defended the payment of $150 as testing fee by passengers who fly into the country after Ghana’s airport is open on September 1. The President of Ghana during his 16th address to the country on measures taken by government to fight the deadly COVID-19 said mandatory testing will be conducted for all passengers coming into the country. But speaking at a Press Briefing on Monday to explain the directives further, the Deputy Minister disclosed that it’s fair for passengers to pay $150 because “nothing is more expensive than contracting Covid-19 itself”. He also argued that the government pegged the country’s charge at $150 after assessing what other countries were paying. Okoe Boye said the government intends to use part of the revenue generated to help in the development and maintenance of the Kotoka International Airport. The Medical Doctor said “The cost of the test will not put unnecessary difficulty or burden on the passenger. We loo
