The Ghana Manganese Company has committed $10million to support the rehabilitation of the country’s railway sector. The money which will be an upfront payment for the services of the Ghana Railway Company, will be invested into the rehabilitation of the railway from Tarkwa to Nsuta. Work on the project is expected to be completed in seven months. Repayment of the facility will last for three and a half months after the seven months completion deadline and according to the Railways Development Minister, Joe Ghartey, the move is strategic. “For Ghana Railway Company Limited, if they carry eighty thousand tons of manganese a month they will be able to pay for their up keep. The Bolgatanga Central MP, Isaac Adongo, believes the extension of Ghana’s programme with the International Monetary Fund (IMF), is an admission from the Akufo-Addo administration that it needs the guidance of the fund. He explained on Eyewitness News that the current government now views the IMF programme is giving it more credibility for investors. President Nana Akufo-Addo, as recently as July 2017, stated that his government would not extend the programme after it ended on December 2018. But the IMF, upon concluding its fourth review of Ghana’s programme on Wednesday, August 30, 2017, extended the programme by one year and approved a $94.2 million disbursement. The Ghana Fire Service responded swiftly to subdue a fire that erupted at the Manhyia Palace on Thursday. According to an eyewitness, who spoke to Citi News on condition of anonymity, the fire resulted from a gas cylinder explosion in the kitchen area of the Manhyia Palace. He narrated that, one of the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu’s cooks was present when the explosion occurred. However, no casualty was recorded from the explosion or the resulting fire. Two fire tenders from the Manhyia station, and another fire tender from the regional command, were called in to handle the fire. Those affected include validators who failed to validate their payrolls through the Electronic Salary Payment Voucher (ESPV) system in August 2017 as well as employees whose salaries were not validated. Others include employees who were not verified during ESVP validation process in August 2017 as well as those with zero or irregular bank account details and others with wrong or without SSNIT numbers, no bank details and same account numbers for different employees. Employees without the Biometric Registration System at the Ministry of Finance also had the salaries suspended. The suspension is in line with Regulations 297 of the Financial Administration Regulation, 2004 (LI 1802).
