A forty-year-old “abortion doctor”, Charlotte Asiedu has been convicted by the Assin Fosu Magistrate Court of illegal abortion and fined GHC 4,800. It came to light in Court that Ms Asiedu, who is a hairdresser, had induced a 17-year-old student with a concoction so as to help her terminate a 17-week pregnancy. The concoction, however, caused the victim severe stomach pain leading to her hospitalization.
