KNUST Professor criticises "selfish" developed countries over climate change

Prof Dr. Dr. Daniel Buor urges developing countries to put monitoring systems in place to reduce the health impact of climate change. A medical geographer is accusing developed countries of doing little to mitigate the effects of climate change. Prof Dr. Dr. Daniel Buor is worried attempts to reduce global temperature by 1.2 degrees Celsius appears unachievable due to what he describes as selfish economic interest on the part of developed countries. He was speaking at the first International Conference on Geography and development (INCOGaD) 2018. The queen mother who goes by the stool name Norya Manye Naa Ahemaa Ablade Okropong I was formally introduced and accepted into the Council amidst firing of musketry and other traditional rites. Law students wail as they accuse General Legal Council of massive corruption

The Inter Faculty Law students union of Ghana is up in arms against the General Legal Council (GLC) for what it calls the unconscionable hardship, inconvenience, and massive corruption being visited on them. They accuse the council of superintending over corruption and the leakage of law school entrance examination questions, answers and marking scheme which took place on the 27th of July 2018. Shippers pay 76 million dollars as demurrage in 2017

Shippers in Ghana paid a colossal 76 million dollars in demurrage charges in 2017 according to the Ghana Shippers’ Authority. The figure is, however, a reduction from the 95 million dollars paid in 2016 To this end, the Authority has indicated its resolve to embark on greater sensitizations and educational campaigns to ensure shippers operate without incurring such avoidable costs. GRA begins collection of luxury vehicles levy on 1st August

The Ghana Revenue Authority is poised to begin the collection of the annual levy imposed on luxury vehicles with engine capacities of two thousand, nine hundred and fifty (2950) cubic centimeters and more from the 1st of August 2018. The levy was passed into law by parliament this year and will be paid during the registration of vehicles which fall within the high engine category. A statement issued by the Ghana Revenue Authority under the hand of the commissioner-general and copied to MynNewsGh.com noted that the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority has been authorized by the law to collect the levy on behalf of the government. Two university students sentenced to death for murdering pastor

Two students of the Tamale Technical University (TaTU) have been sentenced to death by hanging for murdering the Head Pastor of the End Time Believers Bible Fellowship in Tamale last year. The Tamale High Court, presided over by Mr Justice Edward Apenkwah, sentenced the two students, Kwame Dogyi and Obio Akwasi, who are cousins, after the jury had returned a unanimous verdict of guilty of conspiracy to commit crime, to wit murder. The murdered 64-year Pastor Ebenezer Ocran in cold blood at his residence at Kumbuyii, near Tamale, on the Tamale-Kumbungu road on November 9, 2017. They took away his Toyota Highlander vehicle, which Dogyi gave to a sprayer at the Tamale Industrial Area to sell at GHS10,000. The Tamale District Court One, presided over by Mr Anthony Asaah, on Wednesday, April 11, 2018, committed Dogyi, 28, and Obio, 21, to stand trial for the murder of Pastor Ocran.  The hearing of the case at the High Court began on Tuesday, April 17, 2018, until they were finally sen

A 42-year-old teacher, who allegedly had countless sexual intercourse with a 15-year-old Junior High School (JHS) girl at Abokobi, has been granted bail by an Accra Circuit Court. Ben Nyumu was admitted to bail in the sum of 50,000 cedis with five sureties to appear again on August 22. This was after his counsel had prayed the court to admit him to bail. Charged with defilement, Nyumu pleaded not guilty before the court presided over by Mrs. Abena Oppong Adjin Doku. Prosecuting, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Agnes Boafo, said the complainant is a Police Officer in Accra and the victim is a JHS leaver awaiting her results. The accused person is a teacher in the victim’s school (name withheld). On July 12 this year at about 11:00am, when the Police Officer and his team were on patrol, they had intelligence that Nyumu had lured the victim into a room on his building project site at Abokobi to engage her in sex.
