The attempt to recall Dino Melaye, a senator representing Kogi west senatorial district, has failed. Out of the 189,870 signatories to the petition to recall him from the upper legislative chamber, only 18,742 were verified by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Saturday. The verified signatories represent 5.34 percent of the 351,146 registered voters in Kogi west, thereby not meeting the required criteria. For the verification exercise to succeed, 50 percent plus one of the signatories to the petition had to be verified. Announcing the result of the verification exercise on Sunday morning, Ukertor Moti, the declaration officer for the exercise, said a referendum — the next step in the recall process — will not be held. President of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Reverend Dr ‘Supo Ayokunle has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to forget re-election in 2019, if the incessant killings by herdsmen, as well as general insecurity in the country, is not urgently addressed. The Presidency has disclosed that President Muhammadu Buhari will leave Nigeria on Saturday for the United States of America. DAILY POST had earlier reported that President Donald Trump will host his Nigerian counterpart, Buhari in Washington on April 30 and that the meeting will focus on “fighting terrorism” and “promoting economic growth.” In a statement signed and forwarded to DAILY POST on Friday, by the President’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, the presidency said Buhari, “will leave Abuja on 28th April 2018, on an official working visit to the United States of America, on the invitation of President Donald Trump. “President Buhari will have a bilateral meeting with President Trump and a working lunch on Monday 30th April 2018. “The meeting is to discuss ways to enhance the strategic partnership between the two countries and to advance shared priorities, such as: promoting economic growth, fighting terrorism and other threats to peace and security. “

The Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria (CBCN) has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to resign over the incessant attacks in the country. The group made the call in a statement issued by Augustine Akubeze and Camillus Umoh, its president and secretary respectively. The clerics condemned the killing of two priests and 17 congregants by suspected herders in Benue on Tuesday. The state has come under series of attacks in the last one week. Less than 48 hours after the attack, suspected herdsmen struck at another church in Logo local government area of the state, killing at least seven people.
