Technical Universities in the countries are likely to embark on a sit down strike from Thursday over what they believe is discrimination against them. Chairman of Ho chapter of the Technical UniversityTeachers Association of Ghana (TUTAG), Albert Laurent Sakabutu,  said the Association is not happy about plans to an amendment some sections of the 2016 Act that establishes the Technical University in the country. According to Mr Sakabutu, TUTAG is opposed to proposals to revoke the autonomy of technical universities, stressing that they are tertiary institutions, not second circle institutions. He said that move will be detrimental to the technical university agenda.  He added that the sector minister laid the Amendment Bill before Parliament without stakeholder consultations. The decision by the OAU branch to pull out of ASUU is generating ripples among members in the Nigerian university system. This is the first time a branch of ASUU has taken such decision. Investigations revealed that the national body gets 61 per cent of check off dues from each branch.      The crack started surfacing around 2016 during the election of a new vice chancellor which was later cancelled by the federal government for non-compliance with the guidelines. A newly married man and his grandmother were killed in India when a wedding gift they were opening exploded. The man’s wife was critically injured in the blast on Friday in the eastern state of Odisha, police said. Soumya Sekhar and Reema Sahu got married on the 18 of February and they received the “gift” at their wedding reception a few days later. It was actually a parcel bomb and did not have the sender’s address of it, police said. The parcel exploded as soon as it was unwrapped, relatives told local media. Mr Sehu and his 85-year-old grandmother, Jemamani Sahu, died from their injuries in a hospital. The motive for the attack is not clear, police said, however they suspect it was carried out by someone in the area. President Muhammadu Buhari has rejected the proposed Peace Corps of Nigeria establishment bill. This was disclosed on Tuesday in a letter during plenary by Yakubu Dogara, Speaker of the House of Representatives. Buhari said the reason for rejecting the bill was based on security concerns and financial burden of funding the organisation by the government.
