Mississippi Governor Tate Reeves signed a bill Tuesday to retire the current state flag, the last U.S. state flag to feature the Confederate symbol. “This is not a political moment to me, but a solemn occasion to lead our Mississippi family to come together to be reconciled and to move on,” Reeves said before he signed the legislation, according to CNN. The committee chaired by Mr. Frank Jones Abban found that the allegations of underhand dealings to shortchange the state of revenue were without merit and substance. Other members of the committee included Mr. Godwin Attoh, Ewusi Brown, John Vianney Kuudamnuru and Boniface Owusu, the secretary. A close officer to Mr. Mate-Kodjo at the Takoradi enclave of the revenue collecting agency, Stanley Boye-Quaye had alleged in a petition on 18th October 2013 to GRA bosses at the headquarters that his colleague did underhand dealings ‘’ on Customs Declaration number 42011419712 for Oceaneering Engineering Ltd.’’ He alleged that, “In the FCVR for that declaration, the item, ‘’Buoyancy block’’ was classified under HS Code 701690000, which attracted import duty rate of 20% and VAT of 12.5%. The Electoral Commission will later today begin it’s month-long nationwide voter registration exercise towards the compilation of a new electoral roll for the December general elections. This is despite months of agitation by the opposition NDC and other CSOs. The exercise will be held in some 6788 clusters made up of five registration centres each across the country. It will be conducted in 5 phases, each phase spanning 6 days with additional days for mop up. The commission assures it will maintain strict health protocols to protect registrants against the deadly covid -19 disease.
