Politicians will take us for granted if we accept their ‘bentua’ and ‘bicycle’ gifts – Okyeame Kwame
Ghanaian musician, Kwame Nsiah-Apau known by his stage name Okyeame Kwame has advised voters to ask politicians critical questions that bother on development during the campaign period in the lead up to election 2020.
Okyeame Kwame nicknamed Rap Doctor revealed that the practice whereby people are given rice, bicycles and t-shirts for votes has outlived its usefulness and therefore entreats voters to be discerning enough to avoid politicians taking the populace for granted.
Okyeame Kwame speaking in an exclusive virtual interview with Cape Coast’s finest radio personality, Amansan Krakye on GBC Radio Central monitored by MyNewsGh.com, advised voters to consider the track record of politicians before they cast their votes for them.
He disclosed “This year we are in an election year so please whenever people come to you to campaign, don’t take rice and bicycle from them.
“Ask them the plan they have and also ask them how many trees they’ve planted. Also ask the person who wants your vote to tell you what they’ve done already in the community before seeking that mandate and how many times have they helped to desilt gutters.
“Stop taking money, rice or T-shirts from politicians because it is not worth it. So anyone that comes to campaign let’s ask them critical questions before we vote for them”.
A lot of politicians in the lead up to elections share a lot of goodies to the voters to convince them in order to earn their votes and the recent NPP parliamentary primaries witnessed the sharing of items by most of the aspirants.
