GRA begins collection of luxury vehicles levy on 1st August

The Ghana Revenue Authority is poised to begin the collection of the annual levy imposed on luxury vehicles with engine capacities of two thousand, nine hundred and fifty (2950) cubic centimeters and more from the 1st of August 2018.

The levy was passed into law by parliament this year and will be paid during the registration of vehicles which fall within the high engine category.

A statement issued by the Ghana Revenue Authority under the hand of the commissioner-general and copied to MynNewsGh.com noted that the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority has been authorized by the law to collect the levy on behalf of the government.

Subsequently, the levy shall be paid during the annual renewal of the roadworthy certificate of such vehicles.

The statement said the levy also applies to existing vehicles prior to the passage of the law with the listed cubic centimeters.

‘’Vehicles whose roadworthiness certificates have already been renewed prior to the passage of this law in 2018 will pay the levy starting from their next renewal date in 2019’’ the statement added.

The statement added that tractors, ambulances, commercial vehicles that have the capacity to transport more than ten persons, commercial vehicles for the transportation of goods and other exemptions as may be prescribed by the Minister for finance are exempt from the levy.
