Phillip Addison, Vicky Bright, Boakye Agyarko ‘benefiting’ from NEW AMERI DEAL- Govt insider
Former Minister of State under the Kufuor administration, Vicky Bright, lawyer for President Akufo-Addo and the current Energy Minister, MyNewsGH.com has learnt, are the triumvirate fronting for Mytilineous Company, the controversial company whose novated and amended agreement with Government of Ghana and AMERI has seen Energy Think Tanks ACEP and IES up in arms over value for money questions.
Our very trusted source within government confirmed that Lawyer Philip Addison and Vicky Bright even accompanied the Minister to meet the Finance Committee of parliament to convince them to support the deal.
Questions are been asked by the role of Philip Addison who served as the Chairman of the committee which recommended a downwards review of the original AMERI agreement and Vicky Bright a committee member, both now now fronting for a third party Mytilineos Company who ACEP and IES accuse of ripping off government of over $800 million should the deal pass.
It will be recalled that in 2017 Vicky Bright on Good Evening Ghana encouraged President Akufo-Addo to review the AMERI contract. “We know that the two who pushed for the review have a solution which is in their interest and are pushing for it”, MyNewsGH.com was told.
Executive Director of the African Centre for Energy Policy, Ben Boakye says the new deal does not give value for money. “For what we have seen that we are losing a lot of money. There’s a cost of a 270 million that Ghana will have to pay, which is way above whatever we are saving as purported by the government. We don’t see value for money in this deal,” he highlighted.
The Institute for Energy Security’s Executive Director Paa Kwasi Anamua Sakyi has said he is scandalized by the lack of due diligence that characterizes the re-negotiated agreement between the Government and AMERI Energy. According to the IES, in its current form, the deal presented to the Joint Committees of Parliament is frost with misleading figures and inaccurate claims which may eventually line the pockets of individuals, and overburden the Ghanaian with a high cost of electricity.
The Senior Staff Association of the Volta River Authority (VRA) has also registered its displeasure over Government’s move to amend and extend the controversial Ameri power deal believed to have been over-bloated by $150 million in 2015 when it was first signed, as MyNewsGH.com reported.
Financial Analyst Sidney Casely Hayford and Energy Expert Kwame Jantuah have also questioned the ‘sense’ in the deal, raising suspicion that someone stood to benefit dubiously from the deal.
