AUDIO: Western Togoland secession is NDC’s hidden agenda – Nana Obiri Boahen

Deputy New Patriotic Party (NPP) General Secretary, Nana Obiri Boahen has laid the blame for the secession agenda perpetrated by the Homeland Study Group demanding a separation of parts of the Volta region from Ghana at the doorstep of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Speaking in an interview in an interview with Kumasi-based Angel FM monitored by MyNewsGh.com on Monday morning, the former Minister of State in charge of Interior said the attitude and posturing of the NDC and some of its bigwig’s points to the fact that they are encouraging those who are fomenting trouble in the area.

He specifically mentioned former NDC MP for Hohoe South, Hon. Kosi Kedem for being the mastermind of the disturbances that saw the blockade of some roads and a shootout with some security operatives on Friday morning.

“It is a hidden agenda of the NDC and we must take it serious. Why have they not gone to the Northern and Savannah Region? Do you think it is very easy?” he  quizzed.

Meanwhile, 31 of the secessionists who were arrested on Friday and airlifted to Accra have been remanded in Police custody to reappear on October 13, 2020.

This was after their Lawyer Theophilus Donkor made an application for bail but this was rejected by the court.

The 31 persons have been charged with charges related to conspiracy to commit crime, namely; to attend a meeting of the prohibited organization, to participate in campaign of a prohibited organization and rioting with weapons at an Accra Circuit court.

This is to afford prosecution enough time to engage in further investigations.

On the wee hours of Friday, September 27, some armed men reportedly attacked the Aveyime and Mepe Police Stations in the North Tongu District of the Volta Region.

They forcibly took over both stations simultaneously, overpowered the police officers on duty, broke into the armory, and made away with all the weapons.
