Ghana’s Health Insurance system is the best in the world – Dr. Nsiah Asare

Advisor on Health at the Presidency, Dr. Anthony Nsiah Asare has described Ghana’s Health Insurance scheme as one of the best schemes in the world with few countries practicing the same.

“The kind of health insurance Ghana has is a social health insurance scheme. The kind of health insurance system we have in the country is unique. Countries that have similar insurance schemes and have been successful in its implementation are Thailand, Korea among few” Dr. Anthony Nsiah Asare told Hello FM in Kumasi in an interview monitored by MyNewsGH.com.

According to him, even countries like the United Kingdom (UK) which is far advanced in health care does not have a good system as compared to that of what Ghana is practicing.

He added that Ghana is now moving towards a universal insurance coverage therefore the introduction of Ghana Card where every card bearer would automatically be enrolled on the scheme.

Dr. Nsiah Asare, the former Ghana Health Service (GHS) boss also revealed that, currently there are 22 million Ghanaians who have registered with the insurance scheme with 12 million active members which show an improvement of 9 million active members the previous NDC administration left for the country.

Dr. Nsiah Asare’s high rating of the scheme is aimed at rebuffing claims by a section of Ghanaians that the the National Health Insurance Scheme is on the verge of collapse.
