Staff of retired COP Alex Mensah kicked out of Police Headquarters, dumped in villages
Though Commissioner of Police (COP), Mr George Alex Mensah may have retired from the Ghana Police Service, it appears he has some axes to grind with the current leadership of the service.
This is in view of the current happenings at the service in which his support staff are purportedly being victimized.
MyNewsGh.com has confirmed that all support staff of the retired Director General of Technical Services in a new twist, have been transferred to remote areas in Ghana.
What is intriguing, this portal gathered was the fact that the affected officers were given less than 24-hours to report at their new stations and as a result vehicle assigned to pack their belongings.
One of the affected persons, who spoke to MyNewsGh.com on grounds of strict anonymity, said they were not given an opportunity to facilitate the transfer of their wards from schools in Accra to their new stations.
“We were issued with transfer letters and the following morning there were already vehicles on standby to convey us to our new stations. This is unprecedented because transfers are not carried out in that manner. Who should at least be given the opportunity to look for new schools for our wards and other things but in our case that was never done”, the source revealed.
The affected officers include; Superintendent Nyuan, a former staff officer to COP Alex George Mensah who has been transferred to Kumbungu in the Northern Region, Inspector Evelyn Owusu Aduomi who has also been transferred to Tongo in the Upper East Region and one Mabel Baiden transferred to Tumu in the Upper West Region.
Persons perceived to be close to the former Police Chief, have equally not been spared in the transfer spree.
Superintendent Adu Agyeman has also been moved from the Police Academy to Sankore in the Asunafo South District in the Ahafo Region. Chief Superintendent Peter Agyei, a former Aide-De-Camp of former IGP, Mr David Asante Appeatu has also been moved from Lake side to Karaga District in the Northern Region
Meanwhile the Tamale Division is vacant whereas the Karaga District is a one station district raising concerns over the motive for these transfers.
The situation is said to be sparking an uneasy calm within the service in the wake of the closure of the Senior Police officers messs which is occasionally used by the retired Police Commissioner anytime he goes there after playing tennis.
Commissioner of Police (COP) George Alex Mensah, retired from the Police Service on Sunday 17th September 2023, after he attained the compulsory retirement age of sixty (60) as enshrined in the laws of the country.
COP Alex Mensah during his over 30 years of service in the police, served in various positions and until when he proceeded on leave pending retirement, he was the director general in charge of all Police Technical Services nation-wide.
The now retired police commissioner became a household in Ghana following a leaked voice recording in which he is allegedly heard discussing the work of the current Inspector General of Police (IGP) George Akuffo Dampare and the need to remove him from office for mismanaging the Ghana Police Service.
The leaked audio recording is now a subject of investigation by a parliamentary adhoc committee. COP George Alex Mensah and other police officers have already appeared before the committee to give their testimonies about the leaked audio recording.
