No one should ‘make noise’ for Gabonese President Ali Bongo – Yammin

National Organizer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Dr. Joseph Yammin kicked against calls from the ousted Gabonese President, Ali Bongo for friends and the international community to make noise over his current predicament.

President Ali Bongo was on Tuesday night overthrown by a military group believed to be members of the Presidential Guard after the disputed general elections in the country.

The ousted President in a video that has gone viral is seen appealing for help after the army deposed him in a Coup and put him under house arrest.

Speaking from what he said was his residence, he urged supporters to “raise their voice and make nose” about the happenings in his country.

This NDC leader however believes is not right adding that the Gabon leader does not need sympathy when in fact he has superintended over poor leadership.

“The problem we have in Africa is about these Coup D’états. The fear is that it may be moving from French-speaking countries to other English-speaking countries as well. The situation is no different from the French and English-speaking countries”

“I have just watched the video from the Gabon president, who is under house arrest and is calling people to make noise because he has been kept somewhere or so and I see people sharing it all over”

“ I don’t understand what these people take us for. If you go down and you hear the kind of things that these civilian governments do their own people but when it results in these kinds of situations, then they turn to want to get sympathy from others. Why would he want me to share it, and make noise because he has been detained” Yammin questioned.

“But the number of persons that have been detained because they have executive powers, civilians whose businesses have collapsed because they don’t belong to their political party or they are opposed to whatever stance that they are taking, people’s families, people’s business, people’s livelihood are gone under these same bad leaders”

Dr. Yamin is calling for a concerted effort to address these recent upheavals so that the continent is not sent back to the dungeons.

“I think that instead of spending time talking about coups, we should be spending time talking about, what is really the cause of these Coup D’états”, he advised.
