GFA suspends September 27 elections and related processes
The Ghana Football Association has suspended the 2023 GFA Elections following an injunction filed by King Faisal.
The decision was made by the Executive Council of the GFA on Monday, August 28 in response to a Motion for Injunction filed at the High Court by King Faisal FC, a Division One League Zone 2 club.
The GFA’s elections were scheduled to be held on September 27 in Tamale.
In a statement on its website, the GFA said it; ‘‘therefore wishes to inform all its members and stakeholders (especially Applicants who have filed their Nomination Forms for various positions) of the suspension of the 2023 GFA Elections process until the hearing of the motion on Wednesday, August 30, 2023.
The announcement of the Decision by the Elections Committee following the Vetting of the Applicants has therefore been put on hold’’.
Last week, in a motion to the High Court, King Faisal asked the court to restrain the GFA from proceeding with the scheduled elections until the elections for Executive Council members are conducted. These would be Executive Council slots for Regional Football Associations, Division One, Women’s League, and other constituent bodies.
King Faisal is also seeking a declaration that the GFA acted ultra-vires when it initiated and conducted the nomination process for the presidential elections before conducting the same process for the Executive Council positions.
