UCC ready to nurture generational graduates to create their own jobs- VC
The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Cape Coast(UCC), Prof Johnson Nyarko Boampong has revealed that his institution is ready to nurture generational graduates to create their own jobs.
He indicated that his vision as a Vice-Chancellor of the University is to re-position the institution as the global hub of creative thinkers, offering demand-driven programmes integrated with practical entrepreneurial courses and actively translating the products of its innovative research for sustainable development.
“The University of Cape Coast is ready to nurture a generational cohort that would work assiduously to create their own jobs and further team up with talented individuals to develop solutions that would help solve societal problems and challenges” Prof Nyarko Boampong disclosed at the commissioning of Training Resort and Conference Centre for the College of Distance Education (CoDE) of the UCC at Agona Nyakrom in the Agona West Municipality of the Central Region.
The Training Resort Centre facility is designed to have 162 standard bedrooms, 16 executives bedrooms, 10 seminar rooms and among others with an aim to make it suitable for running various programmes as a satellite campus of the University, especially in health and allied programmes.
Prof Nyarko Boampong observed that the multipurpose Training Resort Centre facility is the first phase of bringing the University of Cape Coast’s all-inclusive education and community service to the doorsteps of the people of the Agona Nyakrom.
“The economic opportunities and job creation that will arise from these ventures will have a transformative impact on the lives of the people of the area. May this centre be a beacon of inspiration and a testament to the power of education to transform lives. May it nurture the next generation of leaders, innovators, and scholars who will shape the future of our nation and Africa” Prof Rev Nyarko Boampong prayed.
The Provost of the College of Distance Education of UCC, Prof Mohammed Anokye Adams said the commissioning Training and Resort Centre would deepen awareness of the facility’s existence, enhance visibility and benefit recruitment.
He said for more than decades, the College of Distance Education has been at the forefront of human capital development in the country by making quality education accessible to all.
Consequently, he said that UCC has produced quality teachers, some of whom have won the national best runner-up teachers.
The Omanhene of Agona Nyakrom Traditional Area, Okofo Okatakyi Nana Nyarko Eku X observed the commissioning of the Training Resort Centre will open the doors of the area to the many scholars from across the globe who will come through.
“I strongly believed our Agriculture will also be seeing some transformation as the University makes its impact in the community, modern farming methods could be introduced to help encourage the youth to go into farming” he stated.
