Bullion van robbery: Police Command must be blamed Security Expert

The Command of the Ghana Police Service has been blamed for the death of the young police officer who was murdered by robbers in a bullion van robbery on Thursday at Ablekuma in the country’s capital.

“With all the analysis made, the police high command should be blamed for the death of the officer”, Security Expert Mr Anthony Acquaye has said.

Mr Anthony Acquaye thinks the police could not follow its own directive of denying services to various institutions that failed to procure the prescribed vehicles for conveying bulk cash and also ensure the safety of its officers.

Speaking to Angel FM  in Kumasi, Mr Anthony Acquaye argued “It’s on record that in a press release by the Ghana Police Service directed all the banks to have the right bullion vans to secure the safety of their officers even when they are attacked.

The statement continued to say that if they do not provide such vans, they will not allow their officers in such operations. So what happened to the officer in the robbery case yesterday knowing that the van they used at Ablekuma was not the right van? “

“I tell you on authority that with all the analysis, the police High command should be blamed”, he stressed.

The comment by Mr Anthony Acquay was in reaction to the robbery incident that occurred Thursday at Ablekuma a suburb of Accra.

According to reports, the attack occurred when the bullion van made a stop at a fuel station, presumably to purchase fuel. It was at this point that the robbers reportedly attacked the van.

It is not clear whether they took away any money as the footage available suggests the trunk of the vehicle was not open.

Meanwhile, the driver of the van is said to have escaped unhurt.

Videos captured by CCTV that have circulated on social media, showed how the robbers carried out their operations

Meanwhile, the Ghana Police Service says it has started a search for a gang of four robbers who attacked a van at Ablekuma Fanmilk.

The robbers, according to the police, shot the officer who was providing escort for the van.
