IMF deal will restore the confidence of Ghanaians – Akufo-Addo
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has said that the country’s recent agreement with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) will help restore confidence and reopen avenues closed to the country in recent years, including access to international capital markets.
“It should lead to the restoration of confidence and the reopening of avenues that have been closed to us this past year and a half,” Akufo-Addo said, adding that it will also “lead to the resumption of infrastructural projects that have stalled.”
He said that the government will need the support of Ghanaians to implement the reforms required to make the deal work.
“We must all collaborate to ensure the success of this program,” Akufo-Addo urged. “Together, we must work towards building a brighter future for Ghana.” He urged while delivering his 29th address on measures taken against the spread of Coronavirus and an update on the IMF programme.
The International Monetary Fund (IMF agreed to a $3bn loan to Ghana to get the West African nation’s debt under control, restore financial stability and help people most at risk from rising prices and other economic problems.
Ghana is facing more than 40 percent inflation, growing debt and a sharp decline in its cedi currency since the start of the year.
