GFA General Secretary: Ghana Premier League officiating generally fair
General Secretary of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Prosper Harrison Addo, has addressed the issue of officiating in the ongoing 2022/23 Ghana Premier League (GPL), stating that it has been predominantly fair.
While acknowledging a few instances of referees making incorrect decisions, Addo emphasized that such occurrences are not unique to the GPL but are also observed in other prominent leagues like the Premier League and LaLiga.
Nana Yaw Amponsah, the Chief Executive Officer of Asante Kotoko, expressed his belief that his team would have secured the top position in the Ghana Premier League if officiating had been impartial.
In an interview with Asempa FM, Addo stated, “Generally, refereeing has been very fair, but there have been a few incidents that have arisen, just like in other leagues.”
Additionally, Addo reassured the public that the association has not recorded any cases of referees receiving monetary incentives to influence match outcomes.
He urged individuals with information regarding such misconduct to come forward and report the incidents, emphasizing the importance of concrete evidence rather than mere allegations.
“We have not recorded any incidents of referees receiving bribes. There are just allegations. People need to report such incidents when they have information,” Addo stressed, highlighting the GFA’s commitment to maintaining integrity within Ghanaian football.
