Black Princesses qualify for WAFU B Girls Cup semis with win over Ivory Coast
Ghana’s Black Princesses have secured a spot in the semifinals of the WAFU Zone B Women’s U-20 Cup of Nations after an impressive victory in Group A on Saturday.
With two goals from Maafia Nyame and another from Stella Nyamekye, Yusif Baisigi’s side clinched a 3-1 win against Ivory Coast, placing them at the top of the group.
The Ghanaian team demonstrated their dominance early in the game, with Nyame finding the back of the net in the 14th minute. She connected skillfully with a cross from Wasima Mohammed, giving the Black Princesses an early lead.
Just seven minutes later, Nyame turned provider, assisting Nyamekye to double Ghana’s advantage.
Although Ghana had numerous opportunities to extend their lead before halftime, their inefficiency and poor decision-making in the final third prevented further goals.
Ivory Coast seized the chance to mount a comeback and managed to score through Deperou Digbeu, reducing the deficit to 2-1 in the 53rd minute.
However, Nyame stepped up once again, extinguishing any hopes of an Ivory Coast comeback by completing her brace and securing a comfortable victory for Ghana.
With this triumph, Ghana advances to the semifinals of the competition and will face the second-placed team from Group B, either Nigeria or Burkina Faso.
