Ghana Premier League: Asante Kotoko suffer damaging defeat to Great Olympics
Asante Kotoko’s Ghana Premier League season took a major blow on Thursday afternoon as they suffered a damaging 2-0 defeat to Great Olympics at the WAFA Park in Sogakope.
The Porcupine Warriors were unable to build on their previous win against league leaders Aduana FC.
The game got off to a fast start, with Great Olympics taking an early lead through a brilliant header from Michael Osei in the eighth minute. Asante Kotoko tried to respond but were unable to find an equalizer.
Their woes were compounded in the 38th minute when Emmanuel Akesseh doubled the lead for the hosts after a poor save by goalkeeper Frederick Asare.
Asante Kotoko tried to rally in the second half, but were unable to find the back of the net.
The result means that Great Olympics have moved out of the relegation zone and are now sitting in 14th place on the league table with 35 points. Asante Kotoko remains in fifth place despite the defeat, with 42 points.
