GalamseyReport: Political power is shortlived – Prof Frimpong-Boateng counsels Oppong Nkrumah
Former Minister of Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation Prof. Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng, who chaired the defunct Interministerial Committee on Illegal Mining (IMCIM) has hit back at the Minister of Information Kojo Oppong Nkrumah.
Mr. Kojo Oppong Nkrumah had denied involvement in illegal mining as contained in a report authored and submitted to the Presidency by Prof Frimpong-Boateng.
But in response to Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, the renowned surgeon asked him to remember that political power was transient and easily fizzles out and therefore he must work diligently and avoid the boastfulness and shamelessness of persons like journalist Paul Adom Otchere.
“My advice is that always remember that political power is both shortlived and effervescent. In about 2 years’ time, you may no longer be in government and you may experience the real world as former high-profile political powerbrokers do. I will urge you to do your work diligently and avoid the coded and evil tactics Mr. Paul Adom Otchere boastfully and unashamedly told the world on Good Evening Ghana that you employ to deal with your real and perceived enemies,” Prof Frimpong-Boateng said in his response.
Prof Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng had in 2021 submitted the report on the fight against illegal mining to the Chief of Staff. In it, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah had been cited for his involvement in illegal mining. But he has recently denied the claim following the leakage of the document, stressing that he is disappointed in Prof Frimpong-Boateng, someone he had had enormous respect for.
In reaction, Prof Frimpong-Boateng stood by his claims, while taking pains to explain to him the various facets of illegal mining and offering pieces of advice to him.
