JUST IN: Andre Ayew withdraws from Ghana’s Black Stars squad to travel to Angola
The Black Stars of Ghana have been hit with a major blow ahead of their African Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier against Angola.
Ghana’s skipper, Andre Ayew, will not be available for the crucial match in Luanda after sustaining a knee injury in training on Thursday.
The injury occurred as the Nottingham Forest forward was making his way to the dressing room after training. The severity of the injury was confirmed after an MRI scan, and Ayew will return to his club for further treatment.
In addition to Ayew’s absence, the Black Stars will also be without Alexander Djiku, who suffered an injury in the final minutes of their 1-0 victory over Angola. Mohammed Saliu and Denis Odoi will also miss the match due to injuries.
Ghana will travel to Luanda on Saturday afternoon for the match scheduled for Monday, March 27, 2023. A win in the game will secure Ghana’s place at the 2023 AFCON, which will be held in Ivory Coast in January 2024.
