Sisal Expands Its Global Footprint With Moroccan Sports Betting License
The leading online gambling operator in Italy – Sisal Italia – that forms part of Flutter Entertainment, has secured a sports betting concession license in Morocco, for an exclusive eight-year period.
On Wednesday, 8 February, following a competitive tender process, the company officially revealed that it has secured the license for the La Marocaine des Jeux et des Sports (MDJS).
The offering, which comprises fixed-odds and mutual betting, will be distributed by Sisal Jeux Maroc through a network of online and retail outlets, thus leveraging the potential of this network in order to deliver Sisal’s leading services. Sisal Jeux Maroc represents a joint venture between Sisal and Paddy Power, another Flutter division.
The agreement includes the possibility of a further two-year extension, and according to Sisal, the operational launch is expected to be completed on January 1, 2024.
The award was granted a year after the beginning of the tender process, and six months into the €1.91bn deal between Sisal and Flutter.
Another fully-licensed and regulated operator can only mean one thing: it’ll surely be featured on NoDepositWorld – which showcases some of the biggest and best brands. License from MDJS: “testament to the quality of our work”
Marco Caccavale, the international managing director at Sisal and the CEO of Sisal Jeux Maroc, expressed his pleasure at the consolidation of Sisal’s services in Morocco. According to Caccavale, the decision by the MDJS bears testimony to the quality of their work and achievements in the past three years, in a country with a history of strong growth, that also shows great potential for the years to come.
A Confirmation Of The Company’s Ambition For Further Expansion
Caccavale further commented on Sisal’s entry into the market in Morocco, and specified that this is their fourth successful international tender. Adding that all tenders have all been highly competitive, he attributed this success to Sisal’s “commitment, investment and know-how that make us unique in the market.”
In fact, the license in Morocco is part of the business’ strategy for further international expansion into emerging markets. This contract with Morocco follows three others, namely one in Tunisia, another in Spain and yet another one in Turkey.
Finally, Younes El Mechrafi, director-general of the MDJS, expressed his pleasure at this step forward by Sisal which essentially continues to consolidate its position within a sector that keeps growing:
“We are delighted to have been able to conclude with Sisal Jeux Maroc, the winner of our call for tenders on sports betting, an agreement which puts in place a highly responsible and forward-looking framework and which offers the National Fund for the Development of Sport (FNDS) growing resources. This agreement marks a real quantum leap for the MDJS, and strengthens its position in a constantly evolving sector.”
