Bawku Skin: Would Gov’t Dare Secure Arrest warrant Against Asantehene or Dormaahene? — Lawyer asks
A legal practitioner has questioned whether government would have secured an arrest warrant for Asantehene or the Dormaahene if their “misunderstanding” got heated.
According to Founder of the FixTheCountry Oliver Barker Vormawor, no matter how serious the conflict between the Asantehene and the Dormaahene gets, authorities will not get an arrest warrant for any of the chiefs.
The Activist is therefore questioning the warrant for the arrest of Overlord of the Mamprugu, Naa Bohagu Mahami Abdulai Sheriga II and the new “Bawku Naba”, Alhaji Seidu Abagre.
Mr. Vormawor’s statement comes after attempt by the security agencies to arrest some prominent chiefs and elders of Mamprugu in relation to last week’s enskinment of a new Bawku Naba.
This has created some tension in the Mamprugu Traditional Area in the in the North East Region as the youth are fiercely resisting attempts by the security agencies to allegedly arrest the Overlord of the Mamprugu, Naa Bohagu Mahami Abdulai Sheriga II and the new “Bawku Naba”, Alhaji Seidu Abagre.
The attempt by the security agencies followed a warrant issued by a High Court in Bolgatanga for the arrest of the two traditional leaders for their alleged involvement in the enskinment of a new chief for Bawku on Wednesday, February 15, 2023.
The youth had taken over the palaces of the two chiefs, leading to a standoff and subsequent retreat by the soldiers.
Subsequently, the youth vandalised the police station and a New Patriotic Party (NPP) office in the town.
The FixTheCountry Activist therefore advised authorities to consider “caution and respect” to restore peace.
No matter what happens between the Asante Hene and the Dormaa Hene, I doubt seriously that any Government would have gotten an arrest warrant to pick up the Asante Hene. Caution & Respect brings peace.” He wrote.
