If you’ve problems with BECE results seek redress at the right quarters – GNAT
General Secretary for the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) Thomas Musah Tanko has asked parents, teachers, students and all stakeholders who have problems with their Basic Education Certificate Examination results to go to court or ask for re-marking.
The West African Examination Council (WAEC)on January 25, 2023, released results for the 2022 BECE.
In all 416 school candidates and 3 private candidates had their subject results cancelled for engaging in examination malpractice. Also, 73 school candidates and 2 private candidates had their entire results cancelled for the offence of bringing mobile phones to the examination centres.
In addition to this, 11 school candidates have their entire results pending and are being investigated for examination malpractice.
But speaking in an interview, the General Secretary for GNAT said he has taken notice of the several complaints and thinks that it will be imperative if persons affected seek redress at the right quarters.
“If you have a concern you can seek redress. You can call for re-marking but if it’s something that is criminal you can take it from there. It can be suicidal for WAEC to be quiet and the public will be running riot on what has been issued.
I think WAEC should engage the public because we are talking about the lives of children and all those things. Certainly, parents will not be happy when they hear things like this. So like I said, WAEC should be clarifying the issues and give explanations and engage so that people will know what really happened so that those who are not happy and want to seek redress will take it up from there,” he said on TV3.
