Black Galaxies to face Niger in CHAN quarterfinal

Following Niger’s 1-0 victory over Cameroon on Tuesday night, the Black Galaxies will face off against Niger in the quarterfinal of the 2022 African Nations Championship (CHAN).

Ousseni Badamassi’s 69th-minute goal secured Niger’s spot as the top team in Group E, leading to an upcoming exciting match-up with Ghana.

Despite losing their first game to Madagascar, the Black Galaxies finished their group stage campaign in second place, earning six points in their last two fixtures. The quarterfinal game between the two teams is set to take place on Saturday, January 28 at the Miloud Hadefi Stadium in Oran, Algeria.

This will be the second time these teams face off, the first being in the 2011 CHAN where Niger defeated Ghana in the group stage before being eliminated in the quarterfinals.

The Black Galaxies are aiming to advance to the semifinals for the third time in four appearances at the CHAN tournament, having previously done so in 2009 and 2014 where they finished as runners-up.
