2022 Word Cup: ‘Ghana can shock the world again’ – Veep Bawumia
Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia has urged Ghana’s Black Stars to shock the footballing world as they have done before ahead of the team’s 2022 World Cup opener against Portugal.
In a replay of their previous World Cup encounter from 2014, the Stars take on Portugal to open their World Cup campaign on Thursday.
In what has been dubbed the competition’s toughest group, Ghana will also face South Korea and Uruguay.
The 2-0 victory over Switzerland in a recent friendly has given Ghanaian supporters optimism that their team may still have a say in Qatar thanks to their commanding performance.
Dr. Bawumia voiced his confidence ahead of the commencement of Ghana’s campaign in a video shared on social media, stating that the talented team has enough skill to compete at the World Cup.
“The moment has come for the Black Stars to take on the world. We have a group of talented players who have been selected and they cannot be intimidated by anyone.
“I want to urge the Black Stars to go and play their hearts out for Mother Ghana,” he said.
“We can stun the world; we have done it before and we can do it again. They should go out and emulate the historic deeds of their predecessors. God bless you all.
“We can do it. Go Ghana Go! Go Black Stars go.”
Ghana’s biggest World Cup result was a quarterfinal place in 2010, which came after a Round of 16 appearance in their inaugural competition in 2006.
