Judgement Debt: GES Director’s vehicle, 23 others to be auctioned by teachers

The Eastern Regional Director of the Ghana Education Service(GES) will in the coming days be without an official vehicle as the courts have granted it should be auctioned to defray a judgement debt

The latest decision comes after vehicles belonging to the Ghana Education Service in the eastern region were impounded following debt owed some 102 teachers.

According to court documents which grants the enforcement of the judgment, the vehicles some of which are being used by some subordinate staff at the Regional Directorate, are expected to be auctioned within the week.

It could be remembered that on 16th September 2022, a Koforidua High Court ordered the impounding and subsequent auctioning of 27 vehicles to settle judgment debt of over GH¢3 million.

However, the plaintiffs assisted by the bailiffs could only impound 4 vehicles.

The vehicles impounded belong to the Eastern Regional Director of the Ghana Education Service, Kwabeng Anglican SHS, New Juabeng Municipal Assembly and the Eastern Regional Sports Director.

Even though it was highly anticipated that they would reach a common ground to retrieve their vehicles, both parties have not reached a consensus and the teachers have no option but to auction the vehicles.

However, the plaintiffs have revealed they would do everything possible to retrieve the remaining listed vehicles that are in hideouts.
