It’s a shame Ghana has 0% equity in AngloGold Ashanti – Sam Jonah

Businessman Sam Esson Jonah has revealed that the Government of Ghana has zero percent (0%) equity in mining juggernaut AngloGold Ashanti, describing the situation as shameful.

In an interview with GTV monitored by MyNewsGh.com, Sam Jonah, a former President of AngloGold Ashanti and the current Chancellor of the University of Cape Coast(UCC) noted that even though the Government of Ghana has 10% equity in the mines, it sold all its equity in AngloGold Ashanti leaving it with nothing. This he intimidated speaks to the very little local ownership in Ghana’s economy.

“Our economy has very little local ownership. So if you take the mines, Government of Ghana has by law 10% in all the mines. But beyond the Government of Ghana, there is no Ghanaian who has 2% of any of the mines in Ghana… Government of Ghana as we speak currently has got zero. It has zero equity interest in AngloGold Ashanti, ” he revealed.

This he described as a shame.
