2022/23 GPL: Amankwah rescues Hearts of Oak from defeat at Kotoko

Caleb Amankwah scored a late equalizer to rescue Hearts of Oak from defeat against Asante Kotoko on Sunday at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium on matchday three of the 2022/23 Ghana Premier League.

The equalizer came after Yussif Mubarik had scored at the start of the second half to give the hosts the lead in Kumasi.

The game was the Porcupine Warriors’ first game of the season in the league after playing two games in the CAF Champions League but crashed out, unfortunately.

Samuel Boadu’s team now have two points from a possible 9 and sits 13th on the league table, just one place above Kotoko, who have played just one game this season.

Yussif Mubarik scored from a rebound to give the hosts the lead in the 57th minute after goalkeeper Richmond Ayi spilt the ball onto his path from a free-kick.

Hearts of Oak pulled the equalizer in the 87th minute through Caleb Amankwah, who headed in a Seidu Suraj free-kick.

The game ended 1-1 as there were no more goals in the remaining minutes.

Hearts of Oak will host Bibiani GoldStars on Friday, September 30 on matchday four of the season at the Accra Sports Stadium.

Asante Kotoko will clear their matchday one outstanding game against Nsoatreman on Wednesday, September 28 at the Bab Yara Sports Stadium.
