Poor roads have forced the gods in my palace to flee – Paramount Chief of Goaso
The Paramount Chief of the Goaso Traditional Area in the Ahafo region, Nana Akwasi Bosompra I, has disclosed that the gods of the area have fled the community due to the poor road network in the area.
“New Region with poor road network is a shame. The last time when President Akufo-Addo paid me a visit, I told him Mr. President you have let all my gods flee from Goaso because of the dusty road from Tepa to Goaso. My palace is near the roadside the dust has forced my gods to flee from the community” the revealed
According to Nana Akwasi Bosompra I, the neglect of the road had left farmers and traders in the Goaso frustrating traders as they cannot transport their farm produce to the market centres, resulting in a glut.
Speaking in an interview with AMBASSADOR TV monitored by MyNewsGh.com during the asphalt construction of Ahafo-Kenyasi-Hwediem road, Nana Akwasi Bosompra I said the dusty and deplorable Tepa- Goaso road is gradually collapsing businesses in the communities.
“I’m so much excited that asphalt construction of Kenyasi is ongoing because we the chiefs of the Ahafo region can say our sweat has yielded positive results after several meetings with the government and Newmont Ghana” Nana Akwasi Bosompra I said.
Nana Akwasi Bosompra I “I told Kofi Job Construction Limited who was awarded to construct Ahafo-Kenyasi and Hwediem by Newmont Ghana not to come on the road with old construction types of equipment but rather new ones because after this road he will move to Tepa-Goaso road’
“Government should start the construction process of Tepa-Goaso road because the contractor will not move from Ahafo without the construction of Tepa-Goaso road” Nana Akwasi Bosompra I added.
“The Tepa-Goaso deplorable road network has affected Cocoa production in the area because the farmers cannot produce more cocoa due to lack of transportation. The Kenyasi Paramount Chief and I came here to inspect the ongoing asphalt construction of Kenyasi to Hwediem road because we the chiefs are eager for all our roads to be fixed”
It would be recalled that residents of Kenyasi embarked on a demonstration in 2021 over the deplorable state of the Kenyasi and Hwediem road network.
The road was awarded for construction in 2015 but was abandoned after the 2016 general elections. In 2019, the government re-awarded it for construction but it was again abandoned after the 2020 general elections.
After several consultations between the government, Ahafo Regional House of Chief and Newmont Ghana, the road was re-awarded for construction by Newmont Ghana Limited which operates in the area.
