What kind of ‘cult’ exams do Law students sit without knowing pass mark? — UDS Lecturer asks GSL
Following concerns about the lack of a clear pass mark in the notice sent out to eligible candidates for this year’s entrance examination of the Ghana School of law a UDS Lecturer has wondered what kind of system is being administered by Law School management.
Dr. Abu Imoro said the system is tantamount to blindfolding students and asking them to pass an exam to a cult.
“Is it true the pass mark for the upcoming entrance exam to the Ghana Law School has been made obscure? How can this be fair?” He asked.
According to him, he has never seen any system like that both local and international. Dr. Imoro joins the like Kwaku Azar who have criticized the law school system as bogus.
“I have written different types of exams both locally and Internationally but I’ve never come across this type of regulation where you “blindfold” students and ask them to pass. Is it a cult?
The independent examinations committee of the General Legal Council, without stating a pass mark said “Eligible applicants who attain the minimum threshold mark set by the General Legal Council for this particular year will be offered admission for the 2022/2023 academic year to pursue the professional law course”.
The use of the term minimum threshold is raising eyebrows amongst some lawyers and legal brains.
Reacting to the issue, a former acting director of the Ghana School of law, Maxwell Opoku Agyeman questioned why the pass mark was opaque.
The reason for not stating a pass mark for the exams is unclear, but last year, 499 students who took part in the entrance examination were denied admission although they attained the 50% pass mark.
