It was senseless to hoot and pelt stones at me – Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu
Member of Parliament (MP) for Suame Constituency Hon Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu has chided his constituents who hooted at him some weeks ago indicating that their conduct was senseless.
The Minister for Parliamentary Affairs made this statement when road construction began in his constituency a few days after he was attacked by angry residents
“The good news is that the contractor is back on the road so if you didn’t understand me and engaged in any attacks, then what is the sense in what you did?” Mr Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu asked on Kumasi-based Sompa FM.
The lawmaker however accepted the fact that the state of the road in the area was very dusty and disrupted lots of businesses adding that after the rainfall, the road was in a deplorable state.
“There is also a health risk for those who sit and work in those dusty areas. Those who sell food on the roadside also lost their jobs. These among others were the reasons I came to explain which most people did not understand”, he said.
The lawmaker last week was at his constituency but was attacked amidst the pelting of stones by some residents and artisans at Suame Magazine area over bad roads during a demonstration to register their displeasure.
The artisans claimed that their Member of Parliament(MP) is indifferent to their complaints hence their decision to demonstrate and embarrass him before a delegation he was leading to the area.
However, speaking on the matter on Sompa FM, Osei Kyei Mensah noted that, “I will not condemn them outright because I think the communication didn’t go well on the issue”.
