I led the NDC to perform ‘very well’ in 2020 poll — Ofosu Ampofo brags ahead of ‘Mosquito showdown’
Ahead of what promises to be a showdown on who becomes or continues to serve as National Chairman of the Opposition National Democratic Congress, incumbent Samuel Ofosu Ampofo has indicated he is best fit.
Mr. Ofosu Ampofo is expected to re-compete for his post against incumbent serial General Secretary of the NDC, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah who is widely considered favourite.
According to Ofosu Ampofo, he led the party to record a good performance in the 2020 election improving on the 1million vote deficit and closing the parliamentary seat gap between the NPP and the NDC.
“We lost by over fifty three seats in parliament and then we worked very hard within that short period and improved our votes by over two million votes. We were able to increase our parliamentary seats from 106 to 137.” He said on Accra based 3FM monitored earlier by MyNewsGh.com.
There is a lot that we can pride ourselves in, we have brought unity in the party, there is cohesion in the party and even the death of the founder of the party could not prevent us from performing the way we have performed,” he mentioned.
While acknowledging the efforts of other executives, he said his leadership made a difference.
“Myself and my other executives were entrusted with this party in 2018 at the time we had gone into election in 2016 and lost by over one million votes….” and managed to close the gap despite interference of military in the 2020 election.
“I believe that I can continue to provide that leadership,” he added.
The NDC is yet to decide when it will be electing Constituency, regional and national executives for the next election period.
