Gov’t doesn’t owe NaBCO beneficiaries any apology for ending program –  NADMO Boss

Nation Builders Corps (NABCO) beneficiaries have been told the government does now owe them an apology after it was announced by the Finance Minister that the program will cease to exist by September 1, 2022.

The Nana Addo administration introduced NaBCO to address graduate unemployment but at the midyear budget review, Finance Minister Ken Ofori -Atta said the program will cease and beneficiaries are to seek support from the government’s YouStart programme.

This has not gone down well with beneficiaries, some who claim they are owed several arrears and are surprised with the government’s posture.

Commenting on the latest development, a 1st Vice Chairman of NPP’s Obuasi East Constituency and the Obuasi NADMO Director, Bismarck Osei Akowuah, was emphatic that the government owes nobody an apology after it announced NABCO will be no more.

‘‘We don’t owe anybody an apology, we brought in NABCO to support our unemployed youth for them to gain some work on experience, we did that in good faith’’

‘‘We were able to recruit over 100 thousand unemployed youth and they were posted to the various institutions, GES, GHS and other state institutions for them to accept them and work with them to get the needed experience, it was for a three-year period and after that, they were given an extension, they were given an option either in public service or entrepreneurship, the reason the YouStart is coming up which will be launched soon’’ Osei Akowuah noted.

He urged interested unemployed youth to apply for the YouStart programme to kick start their own entrepreneurial abilities to be self-employed.

‘‘YouStart is going g to support over 300 hundred thousand youth, I am told its going to create over 1 million jobs, if YouStart is going to create these jobs we can all see the number of youth that will get the opportunity accesses the program, so that on their own they can start their business’’

He however noted that NaBCO and other youth-oriented programs the NPP introduced has brought the needed impact to the teeming Ghanaian youth.
