There’s nothing wrong with Akufo-Addo building a National Cathedral – Titus Glover

Member of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) and a former Deputy Minister for Transport has taken on critics of the infamous National Cathedral project indicating that there is nothing wrong with the President’s decision to build it with or without public money.

“If the President says he is building a National Cathedral for God, I see nothing wrong with it at all”, the former Member of Parliament (MP) for Tema East constituency mounted a spirited defense

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo – Addo’s decision to build a National Cathedral was in fulfillment of a personal promise he made prior to becoming the Commander-In-Chief of the Ghana Armed Forces.

However, before the commencement of the project, the President categorically stated that the project was not going to be funded with public funds, explaining that resources for the project would come from the Christian community and spirited donors.

But few years down the line, a letter released by the Ministry of Finance sighted by the media revealed that, the government had released an amount of GHC 25 million to the project.

It is also alleged that the government has so far disbursed over GHC 140 million for the project.

This decision by the president has met serious criticism including from some renowned Christian leaders.

But Mr Titus Glover speaking on the issue insisted that the president has done nothing wrong by abandoning social-oriented projects and building a National Cathedral with public funds.

“I have heard some part of the public including the media questioning why the President has abandoned social projects for the building of the National Cathedral. It is a covenant he had with God”, Titus Glover said in an interview with Kumasi-based Nhyira FM monitored by MyNewsGH.com.

“When you look at the difficulties and the struggles Nana Akufo-Addo went through before becoming the President indeed he deserves to build a temple for God. I think we should allow him. That would also not stop him from continuing the good policies and development he has for the country”, he said.
