30% equity policy for kids from public schools discriminatory – Kofi Ofosu Nkansah
Chief Executive officer(CEO) for the National Entrepreneurship & Innovation Programme (NEIP) Kofi Ofosu Nkansah has questioned the decision by the Ghana Education Service (GES) to implement a 30% equity policy for kids from public schools.
To him, the policy is discriminatory and should not be encouraged in the school placement system.
He argues that “aside the top Private Schools in the big Cities, most of the Private Schools in the Districts are run with little resources. They are only better than the Public Schools in terms of Supervision of teachers”.
Kofi Ofosu Nkansah contends that “it’s unfair to deny poor kids from village Private Schools 30% quota when they cannot be compared to the Morning Stars and Roman Ridge Schools”.

BECE Placement Matters …
I think the 30% equity policy for kids from public schools is discriminatory. Aside the top Private Schools in the big Cities, most of the Private Schools in the Districts are run with little resources. They are only better than the Public Schools in terms of Supervision of teachers.
So it’s unfair to deny poor kids from village Private Schools 30% quota when they cannot be compared to the Morning Stars and Roman Ridge Schools.
Why should an Aggregate 25 student from a Public School in Konongo get KOSS and not same for the Private School student from Konongo with same Aggr 25 ?
I believe any quota reserved for communities should go to all locals and not only those who attended Public Schools. We should be careful not to encourage Public Schools to be more lazy.
If we can’t get the affirmative action right then let’s go for 100% merit.
