[AUDIO]: Propaganda over $100m Techiman Water Project falls flat as GWCL Boss speaks
The Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) has denied claims that monies meant for the Techiman water project have been squandered by officials in Ghana.
The Government of Ghana has secured funding of $100 million from the Korea Exim Bank for the Techiman Water Supply Project in the Bono East Region.
Reports in the local media suggested that the cash had been disbursed but some local officials had squandered the money.
But speaking in an interview on Link Agoo AM Show Managing Director for Ghana Water Company Limited, Ing.Dr. Clifford Briamah denied the reports indicating that the money will not be paid to Ghana.
He said what the Ghana Water company has done so far is to write its report to the Korean Exim Bank after advertising for contractors to put in their bids for the contract but cannot tell when exactly the work will start.
He clarified that the money will be with the Bank of Korea and will only be paid to the contractor who is a Korean when work is done and evaluated.
“We have not got to that stage yet, the money won’t even come to Ghana. They will devote that amount of money for Ghana but will be in the Bank in Korea. The consultant is going to be a Korean, the contractor will be a Korean,” he clarified.
He said the only work the Ghana Water Company will do is to raise certificates after evaluation of the work done for onward transfer to the Water and Sanitation Ministry which was report to the Finance Ministry.
“The money will not come to the Bank of Ghana, the Commercial bank or any bank in Ghana. Unless the Korea Exim decides that the payment in Korea will be difficult so they will arrange with a bank in Ghana that we will not have control over. That money cannot be spent and there is no way that money can be spent. No money has come and we have not go to a level where money will be spent,” he said.
