Gov’t won’t be able to pay salaries in the next three months – Bagbin hints

Speaker of Parliament Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin has said that he is picking information that the government will be unable to pay salaries in the next three months if the 2022 budget is not worked on.

According to him, the information available to him is worrying and therefore there is the need for Parliament to fasttrack the approval of the budget.

“The information at my disposal, this is not to discourage the committee from doing their work. If something is not done within the next three months Government may not even be able to pay salaries.

So we have to take leadership, we have to do a lot of things with this the house is accordingly adjourned to Friday,” he said on Thursday sitting.

Parliament has not been able to accept the 2022 budget since its reading in in 2021.

Both sides in Parliament have not been able to agree on e-levy and other provisions in the budget.

Government is facing difficulty in getting the numbers to pass the e-levy to cushion it as the world faces challenges.
