Don’t let the love for money throw you off course – Newly trained doctors warned
Newly trained Medical Doctors have been warned against the craze for quick wealth to the detriment of their profession which is to save lives as contained in their oath of office.
Professor Margaret Lartey a Board Member of the Medical and Dental Council at the induction ceremony, indicated that the extra desire to get wealth by newly trained practitioners can throw them off course.
“Everybody likes money. You like money and I also like money but be wary of the temptation of wealth. Somebody will say money answers everything but we should be careful. I have been on the board for a short time but I can see the extra desire to get wealth can do to a practitioner. Pace yourself in the profession and as you grow, the many things you admire will come along. Make money, but don’t let the love for money throw you off course”, she advised
She also urged the newly indicted practitioners to take time and acquire competencies and not be in a haste to perform surgeries as though they know everything reminding them of the fact, they are still students.
“It takes time to acquire competencies. The medical profession is like an apprenticeship. Don’t be in a hurry, pace yourself and acquire the competencies well. Many at times we are in a hurry to do the big surgeries. Acquiring experience takes time”, she reminded them but was quick to urge them to learn from all members of their respective teams.
