Policewoman shot dead in latest Bawku violence

A 27-year-old policewoman is among the victims of the latest to have been killed in recurring disturbances in Bawku in the Upper East Region.

Constable Regina Dede Angenu stationed in Bawku was said to have visited a colleague in Bawku but was shot dead by unknown assailants according to a family member and former Deputy Transport Minister Daniel Nii Kwartei Titus Glover.

“2022 January has not been good for me. On my return from Takoradi around 10 pm got a call from my head of the family that one of my sisters who I helped join the police service had been shot dead. That is the daughter of my aunt. She was a pillion rider and was shot. Her mother was buried not long ago. She was going to take her clothes from a seamstress. She joined the service in 2019/2020”, the former lawmaker disclosed

Police reveal that the attack occurred on Sunday at about 4:00 pm in Daduri, a suburb of Bawku resulting in the death of two including the young policewoman and another.

Several others who suffered various gunshot injuries have been rushed to the Tamale Teaching Hospital for medical attention.

Renewed clashes between two rival chieftaincy factions last month it would be recalled led to the injury of some residents amidst sporadic shooting following attempts to perform the final funeral rites of a Chief who died about 41 years ago.
