Mahama wakes up with Bawumia in mind; fires 5am FB post against VP

Former President John Dramani Mahama appears to have woken up this dawn with has lashed out at the Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia in mind after the former fired the latter in a 5am dawn Facebook post, questioning the government over the introduction of taxes.

Dr. Mahamudu Bawumi then running mate of Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo lashed out at the John Dramani Mahama government for introducing what he described as “nuisance tax”.

The Economist in an interview on Accra-based Joy FM said “there was 1% tax on savings and investment which was later withdrawn but to even think about it just begs the question who are making these policies? When you become desperate this is what happens, when you’ve mismanaged the economy into this hole then anything sounds great because you don’t have any option.

This is the problem that anything that is taxable, that can easily be taxed they are trying to impose taxes on. Increasing withholding tax, all of these are hurting, they are hurting the economy, these taxes are hurting and therefore you are not going to get the growth and when you don’t get the growth you are not going to get the revenue and when you don’t get the revenue you’ll go back to increasing taxes”.

However, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) was voted into power in 2017 and taxes in Ghana have continued to increase making the standard of living in Ghana “hard” and very worrying for citizens.

What’s worrying is the government’s insistence on introducing the e-levy where a tax of 1.75% is placed on mobile transactions; a move which has been strongly opposed by the Minority in Parliament.
