NPP can’t break the 8 with public enemy Wontumi – Fmr party Chairman replies Bawumia
A Former Constituency Chairman of Formena in the Ashanti Region Mr. Akwasi Asamoah Nti has challenged Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s statement that the party is going to “break the eight” saying the agenda can’t be possible with their current Chairman in the region Bernard Antwi Boasiako known widely as Chairman Wontumi.
Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia in his speech at the party’s National Delegates Conference yesterday December 19, 2021 said he is confident that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) will become the first political party in the Fourth Republic to break the eight-year power cycle.
“Breaking the eight will not be easy”, he said.
To him, he is very optimistic that “for the first time in our history we’ll break the eight.”
“I believe if we’re united we shall break the eight. Our success will depend on how we conduct ourselves. We must not take down each other, but rather the NDC whose return will be a disaster for Ghana,” Vice President Dr Mahamadu Bawumia said.
But responding to the Vice President on the issues, Mr. Akwasi Nti revealed that the party can’t win 2024 elections in the region if Wontumi continues to be their Chairman.
“We claim we want to break the eight but there is anger everywhere in people. If you don’t help me to kick Chairman Wontumi out, and bring a new leader to lead us, we cannot break the eight. We can’t come back, Mr. Akwasi Nti insisted.
He also accused Chairman Wontumi of being arrogant revealing that, people in the region now hate him.
“What we the Asantes hate is someone who is arrogant. Who will vote for NPP when you display gold on a live TV? That guy is pre-mature”, Mr. Akwasi Nti reprimanded.
The NPP in the 2020 general elections with their presidential candidate, now President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo won in the Ashanti Region with 1,795,824 votes whiles John Dramani Mahama of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) polled 653,149 votes.
However, Mr Akwasi Nti says Bernard Antwi Bosiako has made the party unpopular in the region hence it will be difficult for them to have a similar record in the 2024 elections
