Leader of a robbery gang that killed two policemen at Zuarungu gunned down

The Ghana Police Service reports that it has gunned down one of the armed robbers suspected to be part of the gang that shot and killed two police officers at Zuarungu in the Upper East Region.

Two police officers have been killed and set alight in Zuarungu, Capital of the Bolgatanga East District, by suspected armed robbers after they robbed a mini-supermarket.

The troubling incident happened Wednesday, December 14, 2021, within the Central business district of Zuarungu.

According to eyewitnesses, the robbers shot the police officers who had stopped by a food vendor opposite the mini-supermarket they had robbed.

Suspecting that the police had come to arrest them, they opened fire on them. One was shot in the head while the other sustained gunshot wounds in his torso.

The suspected robbers after shooting the officers, then set them alight along with their motorbike to be sure they had no chance of surviving.

In a statement on its social media pages, the Police said : “A special Anti-Robbery squad, assisted by the Upper East Regional Police Command through an intelligence-led special anti-robbery operation at Kpatia in the Talensi District have gunned down suspect Laayaame Simon alias Yendu aged 34 years, one of the three suspected armed robbers who callously murdered two Police officers at Zuarungu in the Upper East Region”.

The Police further said “A special targeted intelligence-led operation is being carried to get the rest of the suspects arrested”.
