Stop treating Breast Cancer at Prayer Camps – Women cautioned
The Central Regional Director of the Youth Employment Agency (YEA), Mrs. Sarah Afful has cautioned breast cancer patients to stop seeking healthcare from prayer camps when they show early signs of the disease.
She appealed to patients to rather seek early medical care at the hospital since the disease was not caused by witches or spiritual powers, but rather a medical condition and could be treated medically and not spiritually.
Mrs. Afful bemoaned the fact some breast cancer patients move from one church to another to seek treatment from pastors instead of them going to the hospital.
At a free medical screening at the Hemang Lower Denkyira and Awutu Senya Constituencies as part of this year’s campaign to mark the annual Breast Cancer Awareness Month celebrated in October, she called for an attitudinal change.
“As the Youth Employment Agency Director, it is my responsibility to make sure people are healthy to enable them to work for mother Ghana because one cannot be sick and work” Mrs. Afful observed.
The Breast Cancer screening exercise was conducted by a team of medical doctors, technicians, physician assistants, pharmacists and nurses.
A Health Promotion Officer at the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital, Madam Richlove Owusu who led the medical team told MyNewsGh.com reporter that wearing tight braziers also causes breast cancer and urged women to desist from such acts.
According to her, some of the women who were screened showed some symptoms and were quickly referred to the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital for early medical treatment.
