Ghc100 NSS deduction for National Cathedral: NSS Secretariat breaks silence

The Deputy Executive Director for the National Service Scheme Gifty Oware-Aboagye has denied claims of deducting monies from allowances of National Service personnel to contribute to the building of the National Cathedral.

Grapevine information indicated that this year’s Service personnel will be made to contribute to the building of the National Cathedral.

There were claims that these contributions will be taken directly from their allowances.

But speaking on Ghana Television, the Deputy Executive Director for the scheme denied the claims indicating that the contribution for the building of the National Cathedral for voluntary.

Gifty Oware-Aboagye indicated that allowances paid to service personnel are non-taxable and therefore there is no way monies can be deducted unless it’s sanctioned by the National Service Personnel Association (NASPA).

“It’s never true, what happens is that…The 559.05 I’m talking about, one there is no tax deduction on it, the figure comes as it is, no one can deduct anything unless it’s something that NASPA that’s the personnel association approves of and their National Congress has already been held, they didn’t bring us anything that the council had stated that they want to do any donation to the Cathedral.”
