$5Million alleged bribe: Atwima Nwabiagya South MP defends CJ Anin Yeboah
Emmanuel Agyei Anhwere Member of Parliament(MP) for Atwima Nwabiagya South Constituency has called on the people of Ghana to tread cautiously on how they deal with public office holders over frivolous allegations peddled against them.
The MP under whose constituency falls the hometown of the Chief Justice, Toase, said damaging people without any basis must not be countenanced.
his caution comes on the back of the various unfounded allegations levelled against Chief Justice Kwasi Anin-Yeboah by one Lawyer Mr Kwasi Afrifa which according to the Member of Parliament was taken hook line and sinker by Ghanaians.
ASEPA subsequently petitioned the Presidency to make the Chief Justice step aside while the matter is being investigated but the Presidency saw the petition as baseless and therefore dismissed it.
Emmanuel Agyei Anhwere believes that such things will deter people from putting themselves up for appointments in the future.
“So why is it that, people will choose to malign such a good man just based on hearsay accusations which have actually been denied and debunked? We have to tread cautiously in the manner we choose to crucify public officeholders. We may be scaring good people from taking up public office and it only leaves our nation the poorer,” he said in a short writeup to praise Chief Justice.
The legislator was of the belief that the Chief Justice who has an unblemished record will not be deterred by recent happenings but will continue to work towards making Ghana Great.
“It is my hope that this unfortunate turn of events will not deter our Chief Justice from doing his job. I want to urge him to keep his head up and remember the words of the great philosopher, Socrates who once said that “no evil can ever happen to a good man, in this life and in death.”

In the last few days, the Presidency had had to deal with a pathetic petition aimed at getting our President to take steps to impeach our Lord Chief Justice, His Lordship Justice Anin Yeboah. The legal demerit of this petition has been settled. To borrow the words of Lawyer Samson Lardy Ayenini, I am equally surprised that it got that much attention from the Presidency. But what led us here? We got to this point because a certain Lawyer Afrifa alleges that a client of his had offered some bribe to the Chief Justice. While the said client has denied the allegation with a great deal of vehemence, the said lawyer who made the accusations has since his invitation to the Disciplinary Committee of the General Legal Council failed to provide a scintilla of evidence to prove his allegation. I will not give any further comment in order not to sound prejudicial as the matter is still being settle in court.
However, I have decided to scribble this piece because my mind is troubled. My mind is troubled for the future of our political discourse. How is it too easy for just anyone at all to make very wild allegations against people and still be a hero in the eyes of some? Why do we seek to destroy people who have chosen to put themselves forward to serve the nation? Why do our media outlets dwell on such destructive news items?
The Chief Justice has been in public office for over three (3) decades serving as a deputy State Attorney, as an Appeal’s Court Judge, a Supreme Court Judge, a Lecturer and our Chief Justice. He has chaired the FIFA Disciplinary and Ethic Committees, He has worked with CAF and served as the board chair of the Legal Aid Board. It is instructive to know that, throughout this illustrious career, never has there ever been an accusation or even a hint of allegation targeting his credibility and reputation. Not even the Anas Arimeyaw Anas could trace a dirt on Justice Anin Yeboah. So why is it that, people will choose to malign such a good man just based on hearsay accusations which have actually been denied and debunked?
We have to thread cautiously in the manner we choose to crucify public office holders. We may be scaring good people from taking up public office and it only leaves our nation the poorer.
It is my hope that this unfortunate turn of events will not deter our Chief Justice from doing his job. I want to urge him to keep his head up and remember the words of the great philosopher, Socrates who once said that “no evil can ever happen to a good man, in this life and in death.” Our Chief Justice is unblemished and I will like to urge all well-meaning citizens to speak out in defense of truth. We cannot continue to rundown our heroes for a nation that does not honour its heroes is not worth dying for.
Long live the justice system
long live democracy
long live our motherland.
