Unhealthy factionalism killing NPP – Party Elder complains bitterly

Mr Clement Apikiya a former District Chief Executive (DCE) for the Bongo District has complained bitterly about the factionalism and groupings in the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

According to him, a number of persons in the party are hurt because the factionalism has relegated them although they have over the years played key roles in the party’s development.

To Mr Clement Apikiya the New Patriotic Party’s bane over the years have been the groupings in the party and until these groupings are united into one force, the NPP will struggle to make an impact.

Mr Clement Apikiya made this known when he met with members of the NPP at Bongo in the Upper East region.

He said “after kufour’s year’s especially after the first term, anybody coming into a position thinks that all others should stay away so that he becomes the only person that is worthy of any good job in the party and will always talk of so so so group. They will mention a particular personality and say he belongs to that personality.

Mr Clement Apikiya added that “Just like now in the party people continue to talk of Alan Cash and Nana, that division I don’t know why people stick to these things and that is one of the problems worrying us at the grassroots. Today people can still mention here that these people were in Alan Cash group, these people are in Nana’s group and they still continue to use that to keep away people who will genuinely help the party to grow. So such people when you tell me you belong to this group, is that group not part of the party? Have you seen Alan Cash working differently from Nana? Are they not together working in the interest of the party?”

“But these are some of the things that our party leadership even up to the constituency level should be made to know that it doesn’t augur well for the party when we continue that sort of attitude. Apart from that people do not think that after I’ve been a Chairman or DCE for a period when another DCE or Chairman comes we should not be dealing with the others who were seen to be closer to that person and so they continue to neglect the people who were the founders of the party even in the constituency or even at the ward level. Sometimes they feel they are stranger, the people complain so much…You gave an example of what happened in Ashanti where people did not come out even to vote for the party or against the party. They feel dissatisfied that they are no longer recognized,” he said while addressing some members of the party.
